Copenhagen has about 14 “pocket parks” or urban green spaces throughout the city. They were designed to focus on green space, openness, positivity, protection, and bringing the local community together. These parks are used for relaxing, spending time outside with friends or family, playing with children, performances, and excercise. The parks and gardens in the 19th century were also created for leisure and for walking around. The 19th century gardens may have been a bit more sophisticated but general use of them has stayed the same throughout time: gardens are for spending time with nature and growing plants. Copenhagen’s current parks add a little greenery in the urban city. They give people a welcoming and fun place to go still in the city but closer to nature on warm summer days.
